English Student Resources

Student Publications

The English department produces three campus publications, all staffed by students:

  • The Meredith Herald, the weekly newspaper
  • The Colton Review, an arts and literary journal
  • The Oak Leaves, the yearbook

Students write, edit, design and produce these publications.  To get involved with the Herald, the Colton, or Oak Leaves, contact Dr. Garry Walton at waltong@meredith.edu or (919) 760-8359.

Student Organizations

Colton English Club

The Colton English Club encourages participation of all students who are English majors or who have English-related interests. Named after Miss Elizabeth Avery Colton, a professor of English at Meredith from 1908 to 1920.  To get involved with the Colton English Club, contact Dr. Christina Romanelli at cromanelli@meredith.edu or (919) 760-8745.

Sigma Tau Delta

The Alpha Iota Rho chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is Meredith’s chapter of the National English Honor Society. This organization recognizes English majors and minors for their academic achievements in the English language and literature. To be eligible for membership, students must have declared an English major or minor and should have completed at least three semesters of course work while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better in their English courses, and rank in the top 35% of their class.  To find out more about becoming a part of Sigma Tau Delta, contact Dr. Kelly Roberts at robertsk@meredith.edu or (919) 760-8995.
