Three students looking at presentation board

Are you looking for a college with an excellent psychology program? Then look no further. At Meredith College, we set you up for a successful career in psychology. Through this major, you’ll acquire and refine both your research skills and practical skills in applied settings.

In this blog post, you’ll learn more about what it’s like to be a psychology student at Meredith.

Professors who care

The psychology professors at Meredith are not only experts in the field, but they care about seeing you thrive.

Professors in the psychology department make sure their students feel comfortable and safe in class and encourage discussion. They provide feedback to help you become a better writer, researcher, and critical thinker.

Our professors also help find research opportunities that align with your passions and encourage collaboration among you and your peers.

Hands-on experiences

We believe you learn best by doing. This is why we provide opportunities to gain hands-on experience through labs, internships, and a unique on-campus learning experience through the Meredith Autism Program (MAP).

Research-focused

Meredith’s psychology program focuses on research. We encourage you to work with a faculty member on a research project once you have declared your major to find out what interests you.

Through the research process, you’ll learn

  • Idea conception,
  • IRB approval,
  • Statistical analysis,
  • Manuscript writing,
  • And conference presentation.

Learning the complete process helps keep you up to date with new findings in psychology and work with a network of psychologists both locally and nationally.

Meredith Autism Program (MAP)

Meredith allows you to be a part of a one-of-a-kind early intervention program that serves children between 2 and 7 years old diagnosed on the autism spectrum.

MAP is an intensive behavioral intervention program where children with autism can acquire developmentally appropriate skills in the following areas:

  • Independence & daily living,
  • Language & communication,
  • Play & social interaction,
  • Motor development,
  • And pre-academics.

This unique on-campus experience is one of the highlights of our psychology program and is available to a few undergraduate students.

Community Field Experience

You can earn up to six credit hours in community field experience as a psychology major. These field placements can range from introductory level settings to intensive pre-professional settings.

During your field placement, you will

  • Apply the knowledge and skills gained through your classes in a practical setting,
  • Gain experience in at least one aspect of the professional field,
  • Discuss the application of the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct of the American Psychological Association,
  • And demonstrate the development of interpersonal awareness, sensitivity, and self-knowledge.
