Student Outreach & Service
The Nutrition Graduate Student Association (NGSA) of Meredith College frequently partners with local organizations in nutrition service learning events, such as:
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina has served as the central hub of a network that has grown to 700+ partner programs across a 34-county region — including free food markets, pantries, meal sites, and a host of initiatives serving children, adults and seniors. Together, we’re working to overcome hunger and create an environment where everyone in North Carolina can thrive.
Rise Against Hunger
Rise Against Hunger has a mission to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and aid to the undernourished globally. Volunteers set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets, and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck.
CROP Hunger Walks
CROP Hunger Walks are community-based walk fundraising events held in cities and towns across the United States, created to support the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. After a CROP Hunger Walk ends, 25% of the funds raised is returned to the host community to support local hunger fighting efforts.
Meals on Wheels of Wake County
Meals on Wheels of Wake County provides homebound and senior neighbors with a nutritious hot meal, along with a check-in and visit. Their services provide the opportunity for seniors to continue living well nourished, independent and safe lives, in their own home and communities.
