Our MABMS Program
The Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences (MABMS) prepares students for careers as healthcare providers. The challenging curriculum trains students at the graduate level in biomedical sciences and provides professional development for students pursuing a variety of healthcare careers, including medicine, dentistry, physician assistant studies, and physical therapy, or seeking employment in the healthcare industry.
MABMS provides a strong foundation for students in the areas of pre-clinical science, healthcare ethics, and preventative health. The non-thesis master’s program consists of 31 graduate credit hours (eleven courses). Seven courses cover scientific foundations of medicine, two cover ethics and statistical foundations of evidence-based healthcare, and two are professional development courses.
Master of Arts in Biomedical Sciences vs. Pre-Health Certificate Program
The MABMS is designed for individuals who have taken basic life sciences courses and done well in them. Such students need to take higher-level courses to secure entry into an advanced healthcare program.
In contrast, the pre-health certificate program is designed for individuals who are changing careers as well as those who need to repeat basic life sciences courses to enhance their profile with graduate healthcare programs.

What Can You Do with a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences?
The MABMS at Meredith will prepare students for careers as healthcare providers or non-clinical employment in the healthcare industry.
Overall employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 13 percent over the next ten years, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. About 1.9 million openings each year, on average, are projected to come from growth and replacement needs. Compensation varies depending on the particular field one enters; the median annual wage for physical therapists is $95,620, for example, while the median wage for physician assistants is $121,530.
Admissions
Meredith’s MABMS will begin enrolling students in the fall of 2024. (The application cycle runs from September 1 – July 1 each year.)
Eligible applicants for this competitive program will have the following minimum qualifications:
- completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or above
- completed prerequisite courses for each of the core courses
- placed in the 50th percentile or above in the GRE or 40th percentile or above in the MCAT/DAT/PCAT/OAT
- successful completion of Organic Chemistry I and II, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Statistics, and one of the following courses: Human Anatomy & Physiology, Vertebrate Physiology or Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy
