506 S Salisbury Avenue
|Beth Morris Nance, 1995||The NC Museum of Dolls, Toys & Miniatures (NCMDTM) is a remarkable, must-see destination for families with children, collectors, scholars, and anyone interested in the history, evolution, and future of childhood playthings, the stories they tell, and their role over time as cultural artifacts. It has been recognized as one of 35 of North Carolina’s Most Unforgettable Museums and is only one of a handful of nonprofit museums of its type in the nation.
The NCMDTM is dedicated to the preservation, conservation, study, and appreciation of dolls, toys, and miniatures. There is nothing more heartwarming and nostalgic for adult visitors than when they see their favorite childhood items on display, while kids cannot get enough of the Museum's hands-on exhibits, play spaces, and learning opportunities.
Rotating exhibits include a spectrum of antique to modern favorites, including an impressive Lionel train exhibit, as well as the largest known Shirley Temple, Schoenhut Humpty-Dumpty Circus, and Schoenhut doll collections available for public viewing.
The NCMDTM was founded in 2011 by the Beth Morris Nance and her mother, Susan Morris and Nance to honor their daughter/sister, Amy Dawn Morris. Amy, a passionate collector of dolls and miniatures, succumbed to Werdnig-Hoffman Disease (also known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy) just two weeks shy of her 22nd birthday. The Museum opened its doors in her honor featuring her cherished collection of dolls and miniatures. Today, the Museum collection has grown to include thousands of items, most donated by collectors who wish to preserve their childhood artifacts. Today, the Museum has 150,000 items in its collection, most donated by people who wish to preserve their childhood treasures.

|Cynthia Harding, 1984||In my 34 years in college and university admission, I worked in freshman recruitment, admission decision making (including honors college), and merit scholarship awarding. Now that I have retired, I use my expertise in these areas to assist students and parents in navigating the college admission process. Since I began my work in the profession (1984), many changes have occurred in how students apply to college and how colleges make their decisions. Students start the college selection journey earlier in their high school careers, and parents are more involved than ever. School counselors have higher caseloads and shoulder many responsibilities that didn’t exist just a few years ago. The competition for acceptance gets more intense annually; as a result, the stress level on all parties is higher than it should be. My goal is to help families make sound decisions by being well-informed and realistic. This process should not be exhausting; rather, it should be a time of reflection, growth, and, along the way, some family memory-making.|
