Students interested in theatre can audition for Meredith Ensemble Theatre productions, where they will perform alongside theatre faculty and other professional actors from the Triangle area.
Meredith Ensemble Theatre presents four main-stage shows each season, in either Jones Auditorium or Studio Theatre. A variety of productions are offered including a musical each year. The productions range from classical works, to Shakespeare, to new unpublished plays and everything in-between. Giving our students exposure to many different styles of performance and design. Productions are directed by Meredith Faculty as well as guest artists.
Extra Theatre Company offers opportunities for both theatre majors and non-majors to be involved with laboratory productions. Previous sponsorships include student directed plays and readings, senior projects and the annual production of Vagina Monologues. ETC often collaborates with other groups across campus on events such as Women’s History month, Earth Day celebrations and more. Student directed productions are also performed on a regular basis.
Honor Society – Alpha Psi Omega
Alpha Psi Omega is the honorary theatre fraternity at Meredith. Membership is earned by on-stage and backstage participation in theatre productions. The society aims to broaden the theatre program by promoting participation and professionalism in Meredith Ensemble productions and assisting theatre patrons. The group also participates in at least one service project per year.
Internships are a valuable way for theatre students to gain real-world, hands-on professional experience. Internships held by Meredith students include positions with Burning Coal Theatre Company and North Carolina Theatre. Graduates of Meredith’s theatre program have gone on to pursue graduate study, become theatre teachers in public school systems, and perform in award-winning productions on and off Broadway.
