Meredith Remains in Top 50 Alma Maters of National Board Certified Teachers

Meredith College has again made the list of “Top 50 Alma Maters of National Board Certified Teachers ” by total number of alumnae/i to hold this distinction.

Meredith earned this recognition with 494 alumnae/i who have earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. At 46 in the nation, Meredith is the only independent college in North Carolina to make the list. The College first made the Top 50 ranking in 2014.

Established in 1987, the National Board is an independent, nonprofit organization working to advance accomplished teaching for all students. National Board certification is considered the gold standard in teacher certification.

North Carolina leads the U.S. in the number of teachers who have earned national board certification with 486 additional teachers earning the endorsement during the 2021-22 school year.

Meredith College’s undergraduate education program has a unique approach to educating teachers. A Meredith student who plans to become a teacher majors in the field of her choice and, at the same time, pursues a program that leads to teaching licensure. This combination of a college major plus a teacher education program uniquely prepares Meredith graduates to meet the needs of their students.

Meredith also offers graduate options including the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and the Master of Education (M.Ed.).
