Before you apply for an ISPP at Meredith College, you should:

  • Official transcript(s) verifying an overall GPA and a professional DPD GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.0. Prospective interns must have a grade of C or higher in all DPD science and DPD professional courses.
  • Present documented proof that you have applied for a dietetic internship in the past
  • Plan to complete your rotations at least 150 miles outside the Raleigh, North Carolina area
  • Plan to complete the Dietetic Internship (DI) within 2 years of the start date
  • Be prepared to come to Meredith’s campus to attend a seven-ten day orientation program the summer of your first year. (All travel, hotel and other expenses will be paid by the intern).
  • Be prepared to take an on-line, three credit hour class in the first Fall and in the first Spring semesters
  • Be interested in an Internship with a Leadership Concentration
  • Be prepared to attend your state, regional or local Dietetic Association’s Annual meeting. All incurred expenses will be paid by the intern.
  • Be prepared to find and secure all of your own preceptors and rotations.  Please note:  Although you DO NOT have to have all of your sites secured before applying, admission preference is given to those who have some or all of their sites secured. 

Application Requirements

To apply for an ISPP starting in July/August 2021,  follow this checklist to ensure you submitted all required materials. Applications will be accepted on and after April 8, 2021 12pm EST and decisions will be made immediately until the ISPP is filled.

1. DICAS Application using this link:  https://portal.dicas.org/

2. Personal Statement. “Letter Format, 1000 word maximum” Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:

  • Why are you interested in Meredith College?
  • Why are you interested in this internship pathway?
  • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
  • Discuss experiences that have helped to prepare you for your career.
  • What are your short-term and long-term goals?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?

3. Official transcript(s) verifying an overall GPA and a professional DPD GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.0. Prospective interns must have a grade of C or higher in all DPD science and DPD professional courses.

4. Declaration of Intent to Complete Degree Form or Verification Statement from a DPD ®-Accredited School.

5. Three recommendation letters, one from the DPD Director/Advisor, one from a professor and one from a professor or Supervisor (RDN) preferred.

6. Application fee:  a non-refundable application fee of $60, payable online, by check or money order and made out to Meredith College. It is strongly recommended that you send your application fee with a trackable system such as FedEx, Registered US Mail or UPS. Applications received without an application fee payment will not be reviewed.

Once you are accepted for an ISPP:

Begin securing all potential rotations and placements for the internship.

Supervised rotation components include:

  • Sites and preceptors do not need to be secured prior to applying to the Meredith College Dietetic Internship, however, we strongly recommend starting the process as soon as possible. Please use this Guidebook when finding your intern-identified sites and preceptors.
  • Clinical Rotation (in a JC Accredited Hospital and/or Long Term Care/Sub Acute Rehab/Skilled Nursing Facility or similar setting for a total of 12 weeks, 40 hours a week). Please note, the maximum allowed time allowed in Long Term Care/Sub Acute Rehab/Skilled Nursing Facility is 4 weeks or 160 hours.
    • Concentrations in the clinical setting include: general nutrition/obesity, cardiology, renal, endocrinology, oncology/AIDS, gastrointestinal, malnutrition and one of your choice. Preceptor must be an RD with at least one year of experience.
  • Two food service management rotations (4 weeks each, 40 hours a week each). One rotation should be healthcare-based and one rotation can be private, university, or school food service management based.  Preceptor must be an RD, CDM, or have a terminal degree in their field with at least one year of experience.
  • One Wellness rotation (4 weeks, 40 hours). Rotation may be done in an outpatient setting, cardiac rehab, private practice, etc. Preceptor must be an RD with at least one year of experience.
  • One WIC rotation (3 weeks, 40 hours a week). Rotation may be done in Women Infant Children (WIC) or Public Health Department. Preceptor with RD credential is preferred.
  • One Enrichment rotation (4 weeks, 40 hours a week). A rotation where you choose a concentration area of nutrition or food service management. Preceptor must be an RD with at least one year of experience.

Additional Requirements

Interns must be proficient in typing, and in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
