Choreography, Performance, and Dance Community Opportunities

In the Dance Program, we begin each academic year with a welcome party, work hard to engage in academics, choreography, leadership, and performance across the year, then reward ourselves at the Annual Dance Banquet in the Spring. Students who want dance to be a part of their lives at Meredith have the following opportunities in addition to our academic programs. With the exception of MDA you do not need to major or minor in dance to participate!

DanceWorks, the dance program’s spring concert, is open to all Meredith students. Student choreographers hold auditions, rehearse twice weekly and meet with a faculty advisor on a regular basis. Faculty and guest artists create work in repertory classes that are open to all Meredith students. 25-35 student works per year in nearly all genres are produced!

F.I.R.E. (Fierce, International, Rhythmic, Experience) is a student-led campus organization dedicated to teaching, learning, and performing dance styles from around the world. Weekly classes are open to the community, and students perform in DanceWorks.

Meredith Angels Dance Team (MADT) is a student-led dance team that performs jazz-based routines for Meredith Avenging Angles basketball games and staged dance concerts.

Meredith College Dance Crew (MCDC) is a student-led group that creates, rehearses, and performs routines influenced by Hip Hop dance styles for Meredith Avenging Angels basketball games and staged dance concerts.

Meredith Dance Theatre (MDT) is a contemporary modern-based student company that performs faculty, guest artist, and student work in a main-stage concert each fall, at campus and community events, and at the American College Dance Festival each spring. Recent guest artists include Maleek Washington, Teena Marie Custer, Lindsey Kelley, Kristin Sudeikis, and Talani Torres. Auditions are held each fall and spring.

Meredith Improv: is a student-led group that practices movement improvisation together, performing in found spaces all over (and beyond!) campus.

Meredith Jazz and Tap Company (MJTCo), formed in spring 2006, is a student-directed company that performs faculty, guest artist, and student work in a main-stage concert each fall. Involvement is by audition.

Meredith Dance Association (MDA) is a student group open to dance majors and minors who meet academic and service criteria in dance. MDA helps to produce events for the Dance Program and offers leadership opportunities for students.MDA
