Student-Athletes Celebrated; Lacrosse NCAA Selection; Summer Camp Lineup

Meredith Athletic Director Jackie Myers recently hosted the Annual Athletics Banquet to celebrate another successful year in sport. The Avenging Angels collected four USA South championships, four special end-of-season league awards, 30 All-Conference selections, and seven All-Sportsmanship honorees.

The cross country team earned recognition for Meredith's highest combined team grade point average of 3.27, and all Avenging Angels earned at least a 3.06 GPA during the 2015 calendar year. Six scholar-athletes distinguished themselves with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in each semester she competed in 2015.

Sophomore softball player Maria Annunziata spent five weeks this spring atop the NCAA Division III national statistics leaderboard with homeruns and ranks second all-time at Meredith with nine in a single season. The lacrosse Angels earned the program’s first regional ranking with a no. 1 placement in the Mid-South on April 20 and remains in first with an overall regular season record of 17-1. The Angels rank first nationally with scoring offense for the fifth consecutive week and first with points per game for the seventh consecutive week among Division III programs.

The Meredith College lacrosse team will travel to Salisbury, Md. to face off with the Cabrini Cavaliers Saturday, May 14 in round one of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The winner will advance to Sunday's match versus the host Salisbury Sea Gulls, ranked third nationally.

The 40-team tournament field includes 27 programs who enter with automatic qualification. The Avenging Angels captured the USA South Tournament title and secured the program's third consecutive AQ on April 16 with a 17-11 victory over Piedmont College in the conference championship match.

The Meredith Summer Sports Camp lineup includes one weeklong camp for soccer, a weeklong half-day lacrosse camp, overnight and day camp options for volleyball, and a week of basketball.
