The Frankie G. Weems Gallery at Meredith College will be featuring the Spring 2023 Senior Art Exhibition.
In the exhibition, titled TRANSFIGURATION, seven emerging artists will showcase their analysis of growth and development during their undergraduate program. Saba Ahmed, Caitlin Allen, Dora Fromer, Isabel Ruiz, Olivia Steen, Bridget Utley, and Mickey Wagner are studio art, graphic design, and art education majors who have each developed extensive and diverse portfolios.
The senior artists partake in the preparation and execution of an exhibition consisting of their own work from their studies at Meredith College. TRANSFIGURATION is a culmination of works from the artists who have poured their identity, experiences, and growth into artworks that best represent their journey as artists and as people. The term transfiguration refers to changing of form into a higher or more beautiful state and the artists have transfigured their desires, interests, traumas, and identities into their art.
The exhibition will feature sculpture, digital art, painting, fibers, and other mixed media. Although the differing media might initially seem unrelated, these artworks ultimately represent their overall experiences with change and growth. Each student has compiled materials that exemplify their understanding of what it means to be transfigured.
TRANSFIGURATION will take place April 6-May 4, 2023, at the Frankie G. Weems Gallery in the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center on the Meredith College campus. The gallery is open weekdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and weekends 2 p.m.-5 p.m. The opening reception will be held April 6, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. in the Weems Gallery. The gallery talk will take place in Room 137 in the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 3800 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC 27607.
