Spring 2019 Student Leadership Opportunities

Meredith College students are invited to participate in leadership and service opportunities, including a spring break trip to Wilmington and this summer’s LeaderShape Institute.

Sloan Family Student Leadership & Service Spring Break Trip to Wilmington, NC – March 10-12, 2019
Students are invited to explore Wilmington, N.C., and learn about environmental sustainability along the coast during the 2019 Sloan Family Leadership and Service Spring Break Trip. During this three-day trip, students will:

  • Volunteer with the North Carolina Coastal Federation on a shoreline clean-up and preservation project following destruction from Hurricane Florence
  • Learn from City of Wilmington officials about city planning and storm response initiatives
  • Tour of historic downtown Wilmington
  • Enjoy free time at the beach, exploring the Wilmington Riverwalk, and touring the North Carolina Aquarium.

Travel dates are Sunday, March 10 through Tuesday, March 12. Participants must register in advance and pay a $30 participant fee when registering.

Transportation and hotel lodging are provided by the Office of Student Leadership and Service. Students cover the costs of meals and additional free time attractions. Registration is now open in the Student Leadership and Service Office, 202 Cate Center, on a first-come first-serve basis. LeaderShape® Institute at Meredith College – May 14-17, 2019
This May Meredith College will host a session of the LeaderShape® Institute, in collaboration with the national non-profit organization LeaderShape®.

The LeaderShape® Institute is a highly interactive, energizing, four-day leadership development retreat with intentional self-discovery and a call to make a difference in the community. At the Institute, students learn to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. During the Institute students participate in interactive workshop sessions, small group discussions, and team building exercises to explore not only what they want to do, but who they want to be as a leader!

The Institute will take place in Fort Caswell at Oak Island, N.C. from Tuesday, May 14 to Friday, May 17, and is open to rising sophomore, junior, and senior students. Round-trip transportation, lodging, and meals during the Institute are included with a $100 participant fee. Financial assistance is available upon request. Registration opens February 11, 2019 in the Student Leadership & Service Office, 202 Cate Center.
