Spanish Faculty Member’s Article Published

Instructor of Spanish Javier Pabon's article: "Afro Andean Oral tradition: Insurgent narratives of Re-existence and Place" has been accepted for publication in SECOLAS Annals, the Journal of the Southeastern Council on Latin American Studies. The article explores and expands on the two different notions of “place” as proposed by Arturo Escobar and Nelly Richard, within the community context of afro-descendants living on the Pacific coast of South America in an ancestral territory that today constitutes part of the nation states of Colombia and Ecuador. To exemplify these theoretical notions, Pabon analyzes the compilations of oral tradition developed by activist and intellectual Juan Garcia Salazar.
