Reading Technology Now Available to Meredith Community

Read & Write Gold, an assistive technology provided through Disability Services, is now available to all Meredith community members.

The software facilitates reading, writing and note-taking. It allows users to interact with information in different ways, including reading aloud, assisting with written projects by providing a list of commonly misspelled words, and organizing large blocks of text into notes that can be referenced later.

Read and Write Gold is a screen reading software program that offers the following tools:

  • Text to speech
  • Phonetic spell check
  • Verb checker
  • Digital highlighting
  • Talking Calculator.

Read & Write Gold has previously been available to students registered through Disability Services. This year, the software is available to any student, faculty or staff member for reading, writing, and studying processes.

“Read & Write Gold improves reading speed and increases the retention of information,” said Disability Counselor Jeremy Bryant. “It is a great tool for anyone on campus.”

Read and Write Gold is available for Windows and Apple computers.  Faculty and staff can download Read & Write Gold on Blackboard. Under MyCourses, select TECH_SOFTWARE and enroll in the course. After entering the course, select Read& Write Gold in the left column and choose either PC or Mac operating system.
