Office of Career Planning Spring 2024 Recap

As we round out another academic year, the Office of Career Planning is excited to recap some of our successful Spring programming completed this semester. From flagship events like our Employer Resume Blitz and Mock Interview Week to the return of Career Trek employer site visits, we have been encouraged by student engagement, and the feedback we’ve received from students who have participated in our events has been positive.

Our Employer Resume Blitz took place on February 26-27. Employers were impressed with our students and provided meaningful feedback on their resumes. We heard from many students that they found their Resume Blitz experience to be valuable. We know this is also a great opportunity for students to make connections with employers that extend beyond this event.

On February 28, Meredith students were invited to attend the College of Humanities and Social Sciences career fair hosted by NC State, with 70+ employers attending. OCP is intentional about partnering with other institutions when possible, in order to provide a variety of experiences for our students on and off campus. We hope to continue fostering these connections in the future.

OCP hosted several career treks this spring, including visits to CHG Healthcare, CAPTRUST, and NC government agencies. These visits give our students the opportunity to tour office spaces, hear from current employees (often including Meredith alumnae!), and learn more about different organizations and opportunities. Any time we can take students on-site to visit an employer allows them to explore specific career fields and gain insight into the culture of different organizations and office environments. Our State Government visit was hosted at the NC Museum of History and gave students the opportunity to connect with nine different state agencies. We partnered with UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke to coordinate this event — another great example of successful collaboration with our neighboring institutions!

Our Spring Mock Interview Week took place March 18-22. We had 22 employer organizations represented, with 33 total employer volunteers who conducted practice interviews for over 100 students throughout the week. Students who participate in this event often comment on the value of getting to connect with a professional for advice, practice, and support in this way.

As you can see, many of our events involve Meredith College alumnae volunteers, and we are always grateful for the ways in which members of our community are willing to give back to help professionally prepare current students. We’re beginning to work on our fall event calendar now, which will include events similar to those highlighted here. Be on the lookout for our fall events in the next newsletter, and encourage your students to engage with us! Thank you for all you do!
