New International Students Get to Know Raleigh

As the campus continues to buzz with the excitement of a new semester, the Office of International Programs is thrilled to help welcome a new class of international students to our community. This year’s incoming class includes graduate and undergraduate students, transfer and first year students, commuter, residential and Wings students – and they’re coming from a range of different countries, including Afghanistan, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, Guatemala, India, Kenya, and Trinidad & Tobago. Meredith’s newest international students bring a broad range of experiences and each of them has a deep well of expertise to share with the campus community in the years ahead.

New international students, along with their stellar peer mentors, navigated Wolfline and GoRaleigh buses to get themselves from campus to downtown. The students then set off in groups to have fun and get to know each other better, all while exploring Raleigh and getting (more) comfortable with the discomfort that sometimes comes with being in a new place – whether that new place is the U.S. or North Carolina or Raleigh or even just Meredith. Some highlights from the scavenger hunt include the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Moore Square, an international alumna connection, surprise popsicles, and Raleigh’s Union Station!

Supporting International Students

As a reminder, OIP is here to support any Meredith student from an international background as they navigate cultural, social, logistical, and/or linguistic opportunities and challenges here. And we couldn’t provide the support that we do without the generous assistance we get from YOU, our campus partners who truly make Meredith feel like home for so many. As the new school year gets underway, please do keep in mind the following resources for any global students you may be working with:

  • The Meredith International Association (MIA) (find them on Instagram @mia_mereco)
  • OIP has a new website with resources ranging from employment authorization application processes to international grocery stores in Raleigh

Email Jennifer Glass, our international student advisor, if you have a question about international student support or would like to refer a student to OIP (jsglass@meredith.edu)
