Meredith Students Featured in Golf Digest for Saving College’s Golf Team

Meredith College students Maycee Kay Aycock and Sarah Marshall were the subjects of a feature in Golf Digest, in which they are credited with saving the College’s golf team despite having very limited prior experience.

The article, “The grinders who saved a college golf team: Two women combined to shoot 434 in a single round—and became the heroes of this D-III program,” was written by Shane Ryan.

Ryan was inspired to write about Aycock and Marshall after he saw a 276 single-round score in a college golf tournament, and was intrigued enough to see if there was an interesting story there.

What he found were two students who joined the team after a campus-wide appeal from Jimmy Hamilton, Meredith’s golf coach, who needed two more players to keep the Avenging Angels team eligible to compete. Aycock and Marshall answered the call, and Ryan describes their challenging and inspiring season in this feature.
