Meredith Raises Over $280,000 in 24 Hours

We Did It! $283,052

Meredith College held its first 24 Hour Giving Day on February 23, 2016, as part of a weeklong celebration of the College’s 125th anniversary. A total of 1,791 donors contributed $283,052 during the Make It Count for Meredith Campaign. Initially it was reported the day after the event that a total of 1,764 donors contributed $277,621, but in subsequent days, additional dollars were counted that did not come directly to the Giving Day website.

The response in the beginning was so great that in less than 12 hours the initial goal of $125,000 was reached and new goal of $250,000 was set by President Jo Allen.

Make It Count for Meredith was driven by social media and alumnae volunteers who spread the word. By the end of the challenge 91% of gifts came from alumnae. The gifts will support financial aid, scholarships, study abroad, academic programs, athletics, and the College’s greatest needs. Donors were able to designate where they wanted their gift to make a difference.

Throughout the day various matching gifts from Meredith parents and alumnae were met and continued the momentum of giving. Various live feeds of special events kept the social media audience engaged and allowed donors to share why they believed donors should make it count for Meredith. More than 130 alumnae were advocates and helped drive social media and secure gifts.

The goal of $250,000 was met by 8 p.m. while Meredith Fund phone-a-thon students were calling to thank donors for their gifts. With four hours remaining in the day an additional $27,621 was raised to push the Giving Day to 226% of the initial goal.

Make It Count for Meredith Giving Day was part of Beyond Strong │The Campaign for Meredith, which has raised more than $53 million to date, is the largest in Meredith College history, and has surpassed the previous campaign by $11 million. The campaign’s public phase launched during the 125th anniversary celebration this week.
