Meredith College Participates in Southeastern College Learning Center Association Conference

Meredith College participated in the Southeastern College Learning Center Association (SECLCA) Conference on June 2-3, 2022.

Dr. Tina Romanelli, director of the Student Success Center, traveled to Marietta, Ga., to present at the conference with three tutors and data analysis consultants, math tutor Mei Li Moo King, writing tutor Wanjiru Mambo, and economics and math tutor Mwende Mumo. The tutors and Romanelli shared quantitative and qualitative research about Meredith College’s embedded tutoring program.

“Thanks to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for supporting this conference presentation,” Romanelli said. “Attendees from across North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina were very impressed with our tutors.”

Dr. Emily Lada, assistant professor of mathematics and computer science, teaches the data science courses at Meredith and is pleased that students gained this hands-on experience.

“I am grateful to Dr. Romanelli for providing our data science students with an opportunity to extend the data analysis skills they have been learning in the classroom,” Lada said. “It was a perfect chance for them to experience the challenges of working on a large-scale data analysis project with real-world implications, collaborate with others to solve those challenges, and present their results to a larger audience.”
