Hospitality and Tourism Management Students Visit Graduate Chapel Hill Hotel

Students from Meredith College’s Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management Program conducted a site visit to Graduate Chapel Hill.

Opened in August 2020, the hotel formerly known as The Franklin is located right on Franklin Street and a short walk from the scenic UNC-Chapel Hill campus. Graduate Chapel Hill mixes classic style and campus spirit and is “tailor-made for Tar heels”. Students toured the property with General Manager Wes Rowe who was gracious enough to show the group both front and back of the house. Students were able to talk with Rowe’s team about the challenges of opening during a pandemic and their plans going forward.

Students enjoyed shooting hoops with nerf balls on the mock basketball court and loved getting a sneak peak tour of a soon-to-be-opened room designed to be a re-creation of Michael Jordan’s dorm room in Granville Towers during his playing days with the North Carolina men’s basketball team. According to Rowe, “The room is an exact replica, including every poster he pinned on his wall, the vintage record player along with the records he was listening to in those days, the umbrella he toted and, of course, the ’83 white and Tar Heel blue game worn Converse sneakers he rocked on the UNC court.”
