First Meredith Alumna Named to USA South Athletics Hall of Fame

The Meredith athletic department has its first USA South Hall of Fame Inductee in Carlee Joseph, ’18. Joseph, a four-year star on the women’s lacrosse field for Meredith from 2015-18, was named to the 2023 Hall of Fame class.

“No one is more deserving of this honor than Carlee,” Athletic Director Jackie Myers said. “We started our lacrosse program in 2012. Carlee legitimized it for us. She won every award imaginable at Meredith and within the conference. All awards and accolades aside, Carlee Joseph the person, was even more impressive. Despite her talent level, she was very humble and an amazing teammate, an outstanding honor student, and simply a very genuine and kind human being. We are so pleased for her to be our first Meredith student-athlete to enter the conference Hall of Fame.”

Joseph is the only women’s lacrosse athlete in Conference history to be named Player of the Year three times to go along with a Rookie of the Year accolade. She was a four-time all-conference and all-tournament team member while also earning four USA South Tournament Championships and NCAA Tournament berths.

“I am forever grateful for my time with Meredith lacrosse,” Joseph said. “I am so thankful for all of my teammates and coaches and truly would not be the person I am today without each one of them!”

The Hollywood, Md., native was named Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associate (IWLCA) All-Region three times and Meredith’s Athlete of the Year twice. She currently holds the USA South record for career points with 378. Off the field, Joseph was a four-time USA South Academic All-Conference team member, named Academic All-District twice, and was the 2018 IWLCA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

“Carlee was a program-changing recruit,” said head lacrosse coach Lauren Scott. “She was a talented and dynamic player who never took a day of her experience for granted. She competed and trained at the highest level. She respected her opponents, always practiced sportsmanship, and made everyone around her better.”

Joseph was also an active member of the Pi Mu Epsilon Nation Mathematics Honor Society as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President during her time at Meredith. Finally, Joseph was the 2018 female recipient of the USA South’s Don Scalf Award which is the Conference’s most prestigious accolade, honoring one male and one female as its Student-Athletes of the Year.

Former teammate Holly Hite, ’19, spoke about her time with the Hall of Famer. “I couldn’t be happier for Carlee,” Hite said. “She was an outstanding and unforgettable player, but an even better teammate. It’s easy to see why she was selected!”

Joseph finished her Avenging Angels career with 288 goals, 90 assists, and 96 groundballs. She graduated from Meredith College’s Dual Degree Engineering Program with North Carolina State University and currently resides in Concord, N.H. where she works as a Manufacturing Engineer with GE Aviation.

“Carlee’s legacy to Meredith Lacrosse extends far beyond her lacrosse talents,” Scott stated. “She was not only one of the best to ever wear the uniform, but she was also a great teammate and person of character and integrity. I am so proud of Carlee’s selection to the USA South Hall of Fame and so blessed that I had the honor of coaching her.”
