Fall 2016 Alumnae-Athlete Event Scheduled; USA South Changes

Athletic Director Jackie Myers, in collaboration with the Alumnae Office, will host an alumnae-athlete reunion Saturday, Oct. 22. The campus will be full of energy with Discover Meredith, Parents Day, a soccer match versus Ferrum, and the lacrosse team’s fall play day. Stay tuned for more information and plan to join the Avenging Angels!

The USA South Athletic Conference will expand to include three more teams on this year’s schedules. The conference announced in May 2015 the addition of Agnes Scott, Salem, and Wesleyan (Ga.), three women’s colleges who will begin competing as league members this fall. North Carolina’s Brevard College and Pfeiffer University, along with Kentucky’s Berea College Mountaineers, are transitioning to NCAA Division III and are slated to join the conference in 2017-18.

In April the USA South announced the selection of the league’s new commissioner Tom Hart. He is replacing Rita Wiggs, who retired after serving the conference for 16 years. Hart hails most recently from Bluefield State and brings 24 years of Division III athletic administration and coaching experience to the position.

Fall sports teams return to campus August 17 to prepare for competition set to begin as early as September 1. Visit goavengingangels.com to sync the team schedules to your personal calendar.

In partnership with Jostens, Meredith athletics created a championship ring set to offer Avenging Angel USA South Champions – past, present, and future. Alumnae athletes who competed as a member of a conference regular season or tournament championship team may order a ring using this form.
