Fall 2015 Message from Alumnae Association President

Greetings and Happy New Year to all of our alums! I say New Year because no matter how many autumns have come and gone since my graduation, I always think the year begins at the end of August!

On Saturday, Aug. 15, it began for the Class of 2019! That was Move-In Day 2015, and the Alumnae Association took on a more visible role in welcoming freshmen and their families to campus.  Alums from the classes of 1969 to 2014 and from all over the state greeted our newest sisters as they waited in their cars on the front lawn, drove up the driveway to unload, entered the residence halls and set up their rooms.

We were identifiable by our new Alumnae Association T-shirts (what is a Meredith event without a  T-shirt after all?) and parents, freshmen, and our current seniors told us how great it was to have us there. Those of us who worked had a wonderful time and felt more connected to Meredith than ever.

Our participation on campus and especially with parents of new students is so important at a time when high school women are choosing to attend colleges where networking with alumnae is encouraged and visible. Being present at events like Move-In Day lets both parents and new students know that our relationship with Meredith is lifelong.

Being involved on campus is fun! The Alumnae Office is working hard to come up with new ways to include us in the life of the College.  In the past few years we have created Discover Meredith, an alumnae-driven visitation day for middle and high school students, and added events that bring alums back to campus like the brief courses taught each spring and fall by retired professors.

My wish is for all of us to experience the joy of continuing our lives at Meredith. I encourage you to take advantage of some of those opportunities as we go through this New Year!
