Faculty/Staff Accomplishments and News Briefs 9/20/23

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty in art, communication, and hospitality and tourism management. We also share information about a special discount on the Meredith Explorers Inclusive Preschool.

Michael Altman, Hospitality and Tourism Management Program Director and Instructor, was quoted as an expert source in a recent story in The Winston-Salem Journal. The article covers how climate change is a growing concern for travelers and the hospitality industry.

Assistant Professor of Art Holly Fischer is a featured artist in She and All Her Flowers at the Durham Art Guild. The exhibition runs through October 10, 2023, with a reception on September 15 from 6-8 p.m. The Durham Art Guild is located at 120 Morris Street in Durham, N.C.  Fischer also has a sculpture included in the 2023 North Carolina Artist Exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh. This exhibition runs from September 24 – October 22, 2023, with a reception on September 24 from 3-4:30 p.m.  The Contemporary Art Museum is located at 310 West Street in Raleigh, N.C. 

Dr. Lynn Owens, Department of Communication, was appointed to the Board of Directors for SouthLight Healthcare, one of the state’s largest non-profits focusing on mental health and substance abuse treatment.

Meredith Explorers Inclusive Preschool

SPECIAL OFFER!  A 50% discount on monthly tuition for the fall semester is now being offered to children and grandchildren (ages 3-5) of Meredith faculty and staff. The Explorers classroom is an inclusive preschool classroom housed within the Meredith Autism Program and strives to be an environment where all children can learn together and from each other.Half Day Preschool Flyer for Meredith Autism Program.

Children must be eager to learn and help others and should not have a diagnosis of autism. Children enrolled in the Explorers classroom will serve as peer models for the children enrolled at MAP for social and play skills, as well as communication and language skills. Families will enroll in the preschool classroom for the entire academic calendar (Tuesday, September 5, 2023 – Friday, May 24, 2024) for five mornings per week. The classroom hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
