Faculty/Staff Accomplishments and News Briefs 2/21/24

In this issue, we share news from the Art Department and the Marketing Department along with information on teaching openings with Governor’s School this summer.

Visiting Assistant Professor / Gallery Director Todd Jones has a two-person exhibition titled “Pillows and Cradles” with local artist Nathan Grimes at Artspace in downtown Raleigh. The opening reception will occur on March 1 during First Friday from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition will be up from March 1 to April 28.

Three new staff members have recently joined the Marketing Department, helping expand the department’s skill sets and capabilities in supporting the College’s communication goals. 

Anna BlountIn January, Anna Blount started in a newly created position as social media strategist and content producer, allowing Marketing to expand our focus on social media as an essential way to connect with current and prospective students. She brings social media management experience from roles with the N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church and Camp Don Lee. Blount holds a Bachelor of Arts in media and journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Jimmy BostonJimmy Boston joined the Marketing team in February as the new videographer/photographer. He most recently worked at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in roles including graphic designer/social media coordinator and is a successful freelance photographer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in visual communications/art from North Carolina Central University.

Rocio Antelis.Rocio Antelis assumed the role of marketing communications specialist at the beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. In addition to managing and coordinating the Admissions Blog, she writes, edits, and creates content including recruitment materials and news stories. She brings communication experience from her work at GoTriangle and Pack for a Purpose as well as proficiency in Spanish, a valuable skill given the growing number of Latina students attending Meredith. She holds a B.S. in business administration and a B.A. in international studies from NC State.

News Briefs

Encourage Students to Enter Work in the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition
The 41st Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition gives students an incredible opportunity to experience having their art professionally juried and offers recognition along with cash prizes. A diverse range of art from graphic design, fibers, photography, print, ceramic, sculpture, painting, drawing, and more is on view. Located within the Johnson Hall Rotunda, artists will have their work on display for the campus community and beyond. The exhibition is open to all students at Meredith College. All media and subject matter must be appropriate for an office setting. Students may enter up to four works that have been created in the past two years and that have not been exhibited in a past AJSAE. Artwork created at Meredith or independently is accepted. The deadline is March 8 by 5 p.m. View the call for entry and application online. Artist packets are also available at the front office of the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Building.

Governor’s School Opportunities in Summer 2024
Come and work with talented and intellectually engaged high school students in a thriving learning community this summer – without grades! 

NCDPI is specifically seeking creative, engaging teachers. This is an opportunity to play a role in shaping a life-changing summer for these amazing students. More information can be found on the employment page of the Governor’s School Website. Teachers are needed for both Governor’s School campuses, hosted by Meredith College and Greensboro College. GS is currently seeking instructors for Math, Science, English, Spanish, Area II/Philosophy, and Instrumental Music classes.

Governor’s School also has openings for its GS Fellows program, a five-week paid internship. Being a GS Fellow offers an opportunity to gain leadership experience through working with students in residential life, assisting in classrooms, and leading campus events. Governor’s School will take place June 23-July 20, with employees arriving on June 17 to begin orientation. NCDPI will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews in the coming weeks. If you have questions regarding any openings, email ncgovschool@dpi.nc.gov.
