Cross Country Reigns Victorious in USA South … Again

The Meredith College cross country squad captured the 2014 USA South Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Hagan Stone Park. With just three points separating the top two teams, the Avenging Angels claimed their second consecutive crown.

Meredith's Allie Gallagher led the Avenging Angels today with a third-place finish in a time of 24:51.78. Itzel Gonzalez and Caitlin Dorantich followed her in fourth and fifth to help Meredith edge past Covenant College for the win. Gallagher, Gonzalez and Dorantich earned All-Conference first team honors as top-seven finishers in the 6000 meter race.

Rookie of the Year Mary Kate Morgan garnered All-Conference second team honors with a 12th-place finish, and three Angels earned honorable mention. Heather West, Illa Jones and Brittaney Rice placed in the top-20 to earn the All-Conference recognition.

Coach Amy Olsen was named Women's Coach of the Year. Olsen is currently in her tenth season at the helm of Meredith's cross country program and collects her second consecutive coach of the year honor. Last season, Olsen became the first woman to earn League coach of the year honors in the sport of women's cross country.
