Basketball Opens; Angels Lead USA South Women’s President’s Cup Standings

On October 15 the Meredith College basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with the first official day of practice. After weeks of open gym and pick-up games followed by just a few weeks of practice led by the coaching staff, the Avenging Angels hosted Guilford College in the home opener Sunday afternoon.

In spite of a 20-point deficit, the Angels played the seasoned Quakers evenly during two of the four periods, and sophomores Chandler Hines, Ashley Hudson, and Stephanie Girard posted career high points in the loss. The offensive efforts of these three players will support last year’s leading scorers Jessi Hayes and Kim Hinton as the season progresses.

Come out and support Meredith on December 13 for the final home basketball game of the semester.

At the conclusion of the fall sports seasons, the Avenging Angels lead the USA South Women’s President’s Cup standings with 35 points. Meredith won the award for the first time in program history last year and hopes to keep the cup on campus for a while.

The overall standings place the Angels in fifth behind four co-ed members. Read more about Meredith’s President's Cup journey.
