Architect Selected for Meredith College Academic Building Project

Meredith College has selected Design Development Architects for the design of the College’s new academic building project.

The approximately 13,000 square foot building will provide instructional space for Meredith’s growing communication and exercise & sports science programs. Planned specialized spaces include an agency-style classroom, a media studio, editing rooms, a human performance lab, an assessment lab, a conference room, and common areas.

Based in Raleigh, N.C., Design Development Architects offers a full range of architectural design and construction management services, including building design, master planning, site planning, and construction administration. The firm has practiced in Raleigh and throughout the Southeast for 33 years.

The new building is a team build project and the Inland Construction has been selected as the general contractor. Inland Construction Company, with headquarters in Garner, N.C., is a full-service commercial contractor specializing in design-build partnerships and negotiated private construction.

Meredith’s new academic facility will be constructed near the Weatherspoon Athletic Center/Lowery Fitness Center, located on the northwestern side of the college’s 225-acre campus.

Since 2011, enrollment in Meredith’s undergraduate communication and exercise & sports science programs has increased by 29% and 52% respectively.

Construction on the new building is expected to be completed in 2020, with the first classes begin held in the Spring 2021 semester.

Meredith College’s Board of Trustees approved the building project during its spring meeting. Meredith President Jo Allen said the board’s approval of a new academic structure is significant for two reasons.

“The board’s vote represents an endorsement in the strength of Meredith’s academic offerings,” she said. “Their approval also signifies confidence in our ability to continue growing and thriving as one of the country’s best women’s colleges.”
