Alumnae Book Club Gathers Virtually

Once a month, September through May, the Alumnae Book Club normally meets in the Alumnae House Parlor to discuss the book of the month. On March 31, 20 members gathered virtually using Zoom because of COVID-19. The alumnae readers enjoyed their discussion about their current book, This is How It Always Is, by Laurie Frankel.

The participation was excellent as they typically have around 25 people attend the in-person events. The group always begins with a social time at 6:30 p.m. and then book discussion begins around 7 p.m. One person volunteers to share author information and another leads the discussion.

“It was a great time and wonderful to connect in this way, while we have to be apart,” said Marilyn Jones, ʼ75, director of fundraising research. Jones enjoys attending each month and is responsible for being the referee when there are too many side conversations or the group gets rowdy!

The Alumnae Book Club’s next virtual meeting will be on April 21, when they will discuss Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens.
