Alumnae Association’s Upcoming Spring Events for Students and Fall in Review

Each semester, the Alumnae Association and Office of Alumnae Relations host a student-focused event to engage, support, and foster outreach to all current students. 

Chair of Student Relations, Jennifer Christenberry, ’92, leads these pop-up events with support from other Alumnae Association Board of Directors, including Board President Courtney Allen, ’10.  The events provide students with an opportunity to connect with active alumnae volunteers, who share ways in which they have remained involved with their alma mater.  Previous events have garnered an attendance of over 350 students, and seeing the joy that these events bring to students is rewarding for all attendees!

On February 13, 2023, the Alumnae Association hosted its spring event, a Valentine’s Day-themed Pop-Up event for all current Meredith students.  During this event, students received goodie bags, enjoyed hot chocolate and coffee refreshments, and had the opportunity to create their own Valentine’s to give away. Alumnae loved having the chance to connect with so many current students and even some prospective students while they toured campus!

Looking back on the fall semester, all students on campus were invited to attend several events sponsored by the Alumnae Association, including our newest event, an ice cream social and karaoke night for Bridge Program students. The Bridge Program allowed students who wanted to ease the transition from high school to college to enroll in “bridge” classes. One of the benefits of this program is that participants were allowed to move to campus and settle in their residence room early. The ice cream and karaoke social provided a casual environment for new students to mingle and get to know each other. On the campus-wide move-in day, August 20, 2022, alumnae volunteers, with class years ranging from 1972 to 2022, returned to campus to welcome new students. These volunteers passed out a special treat to each new student, while also providing families with directions for navigating campus, and passing out water bottles. Next, on the first day of class, the Alumnae Association sponsored a candy buffet station for students to fill their bags with all their favorite treats! Candy was a hit with over 300 students stopping by in a short span of just three hours. 

1891 Club Events
In addition to events for all students, the Office of Alumnae Relations supports the 1891 Club, the Student Alumnae Association. Meredith’s 1891 Club, the student alumnae association, provides members with excellent networking opportunities between the students and alumnae. The primary goal of the club is to introduce students to the idea of continued engagement and philanthropy with the College after they graduate. Club membership is open to all students regardless of class year. All members receive exclusive giveaways and event opportunities each semester. During the spring semester, members of 1891 Club have had the opportunity to attend several events on campus. At the campus tradition, Stunt,  members received their spring giveaway t-shirt that is included with their membership. Additionally, 1891 Club partnered with the College’s Young Alumnae Board to offer an interactive outdoor movie night on campus. Attendees channeled their inner royal while watching The Princess Diaries and enjoying ice cream sundaes in the amphitheater! One of the biggest events this organization hosts each season is a last-day-of-class celebration, which is scheduled for  April 28, 2023. The event, in partnership with the Residence Housing Association, will feature a celebration and giveaway for all attendees.  

Life After Meredith Series
The Office of Alumnae Relations was thrilled to offer a new series for students called Life After Meredith. This four-part, workshop-style series featured a panel of alumnae who have shared their best tips and expertise for a successful transition into life beyond the back gate. Topics have included resume building, interviewing, networking, and managing individual finances. This series was formed by the Alumnae Association Board of Directors in conjunction with the Meredith Mentors platform to help students make connections and gain advice from our own alumnae.
