Making Strong Connections – Amanda Webb

“I have always loved math and finding a more efficient way to solve problems. That is why I chose to do the Dual Degree Engineering Program with Mathematics and Industrial Engineering. I also wanted to experience both NC State and Meredith College.

Completing an engineering degree while also completing a math degree with a minor in business has been an ongoing challenge for the past five years and I have loved every second of it. I have learned that I love challenges. I enjoy learning new skills and acquiring more knowledge.

The different perspectives, experiences, and knowledge I have learned from this rigorous workload will allow me to be a more well-rounded individual as I enter into my future career.

Through my experiences at Meredith, I learned that I love talking to people and learning more about their lives and experiences. I was able to work in both the post office at Meredith and the Learning Center. These experiences enhanced my communication and leadership skills and helped me build connections with other students and staff members.

I had an internship at Honda Aircraft in Greensboro, N.C., and this experience allowed me to connect the knowledge that I learned at the internship to my courses at Meredith. It gave me a real-world point of view.

I chose to come to Meredith for the small community. The small classroom sizes allowed me to grow these connections with professors and other students. The relationships that I have had with faculty, staff, and other students have made Meredith an amazing experience. I have made more connections than I could have ever imagined.

After graduation, I will be working with Samet Corporation in Raleigh, N.C., as a project engineer. My strengths of being a learner, achiever, and communicator will allow me to embrace all challenges while also making new connections within the company.”
