Profile

Lynn C. Owens is an associate professor of communication at Meredith College. She has been teaching journalism and mass communication since 2006. In addition to advising Meredith College Student News (MCSN), Owens has served as the faculty advisor for student newscasts at UNC Chapel Hill, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Duke University. Crain’s NewsPro magazine has named Owens one of the nation’s top journalism educators. Owens’ research focuses primarily on newsroom best practices, and diversity issues in broadcast news. Her work has been published and presented at numerous national and international mass communication conferences. Before returning to academe, Owens was a reporter at WNCT-TV in Greenville, NC, where her work won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and two Emmy nominations. She also worked at Reuters Television in London as a technical producer. Owens sits on the board of directors for the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC), as well as Southlight Healthcare, a local nonprofit provider for mental health and substance abuse treatment.
