A historical and stylistic study of music of the 20th and 21st centuries, focusing on masterworks composed after 1900 balanced with an equal emphasis of the music of modern minority and women composers. Students will explore lesser-known women composers, the influence of world musical styles and their  integration with classical musical styles, the reception history of the musicians and selected works, and the performance practice of the time the works were written.  Prerequisites:  MUS- 316
