Action 1: Develop Action Plan
Identify racism at Meredith through the lens of our history and current students. Use that feedback to develop an action plan that provides root solutions to the findings.
- Current students, employees, and alumnae/i shared their stories with us. To guide our work to facilitate change, we conducted a campus climate survey – an anonymous platform for providing feedback and a means for action.
- Meredith has hired a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) professional to support this and resulting efforts. Our DEI exploratory committee reviewed results of our campus climate survey and supplemented those findings with focus groups for even deeper insights into experiences on campus. This committee recommended the key elements of such a position, in coordination with the findings of the campus climate survey, to a formal search committee, after which a national consultant built a strong pool of applicants.
- Meredith’s Research, Planning, and Assessment (RPA) office prepared a report of the campus climate survey. An overview of those results has been provided to the Executive Leadership Team, the Administrative Management Council, the Board of Trustees, and the committee that worked on the job description for the DEI professional. The findings will be presented to students in an in-person session in April 2022.
- Meredith is in the process of updating its strategic plan, which guides the priorities, resources, and accountability for our work. In this next iteration, we will include diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in each of our six pillars: educational excellence, optimal enrollment, facilities and IT, financial strength, marketing/visibility, and quality of life. All members of the Meredith community are invited to participate in the building of this plan and discussions of each pillar.
