How a College Prepares You for Your Career

When searching for a college that is the right fit, you consider several factors – academics, major options, residence life, and more. While all are important, you should also be sure the college you choose provides resources to help you succeed in your career and life after graduation.

At Meredith, our Office of Career Planning (OCP) uses a strengths-based approach to help students and alumnae find a career path that aligns with their strengths, interests, and values. Today’s blog highlights just a few of the resources provided by OCP.

Career Planning Workbook
The OCP’s career planning workbook is a comprehensive document that breaks down the career planning process into manageable parts during your time at Meredith. The workbook includes information such as how to write a resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews, negotiate salaries, and more.

Angels Suited for Success
Angels Suited for Success is a personalized professional development certificate program. Through this program, you can expect to

  • Add a professional certificate to your resume
  • Develop essential career competencies
  • Connect with professionals
  • Gain valuable insights into various industries

OCP works with partners across campus to offer specialized events for Angels Suited for Success. To earn the certificate, you attend at least two required events throughout the semester. Required events vary each semester. Examples include panel discussions, career fairs, and professional workshops. There is also an opportunity to earn higher levels of the certificate by attending optional events.

Job and Post-Graduation Career Resources
The OCP offers assistance in preparing for interviews, writing professional documents, and searching for jobs and internships. Graduate school preparation is also available, including information sessions and test preparation.

Additionally, the OCP offers support beyond your time at Meredith. Alumnae can use its services for a lifetime. No matter where your career may take you, the OCP will be there for you.

Ultimately, your college education should prepare you for the next step. Whether you plan to enter the workforce or pursue a graduate degree, developing professional skills is essential to achieving your goals. As you continue the college search process, research what resources and support will be available to you as a student.
