Faculty/Staff Accomplishments and Departmental News 6/12/19

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff in education, history, and religious and ethical studies. We also share the dates for this year’s Faculty/Staff Planning Week.

Professor of History Dan Fountain’s essay, “Why young Southerners still get indoctrinated in the Lost Cause,” was published in The Washington Post on May 16. Fountain also contributed to a news story on ABC 11 for a piece they ran on the supposed Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence on May 20.

Shannon Grimes, professor of religious and ethical studies, had her article, “Secrets of the God-Makers: Re-Thinking the Origins of Greco-Egyptian Alchemy,” published this May in the journal Syllecta Classica, volume 29.

Professor of Education Julie Schrock presented Transparent Questioning = Thinking Students at the Lilly Conference on Evidence-Based Teaching and Learning in Bethesda, Md., on June 1.

Professor of History Greg Vitarbo was interviewed for an Associated Press article about what happens to history when those who lived it are no longer here to share their firsthand accounts.
