Meredith College sophomore Allie Gallagher, freshman Ann Chapin Meekins and Head Coach Amy Olsen swept the USA South women's cross country individual awards as announced Wednesday from the conference office.
Gallagher consistently improved her race results as the season progressed. Her best performance of the fall came at the 5000 meter Hagan Stone Classic earlier this month. Gallagher topped 55 other competitors as the top performer among Division III participants with a time of 20:27. Additionally, Gallagher received USA South Runner of the Week honors twice this fall.
Meekins has played a key role in the Avenging Angels' successful 2013 season thus far. She ran a season-best time of 20:28 at the Hagan Stone Classic, placing second out of 56 Division III runners. Meekins collected USA South Rookie of the Week accolades on five occasions this year.
Olsen is currently in her ninth season at the helm of Meredith's cross country program. She collects her first Coach of the Year honor and becomes the first woman to earn league Coach of the Year honors in the sport of women's cross country. Olsen's team competed in six meets this season and earned first place honors at both the St. Andrew's Invitational and Hagan Stone Classic (DIII teams-only). The Avenging Angels were selected in the preseason as the favorite to capture this year's USA South championship.
The Meredith athletics staff invites the entire campus community to the track Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. to wish the Avenging Angel harriers good luck this weekend.
