A Biology major with comprehensive science licensure is available to students who satisfy the requirements for a BA in Biology following the Program Requirements for Secondary Teacher Education. 

A Chemistry major with comprehensive science licensure is available to students who satisfy the requirements for a BA in Chemistry following the Program Requirements for Secondary Teacher Education. 

Requirements

To complete the secondary grades teacher education program and earn a comprehensive science licensure in Biology or Chemistry for grades 9-12, students must complete the requirements for general education and the biology or chemistry major, as well as the following licensure requirements.

Students must be admitted in the Teacher Education Program to enroll.

Refer to the Undergraduate Course Catalogue for official information about licensure requirements.

3-5 credit hours of Methods as appropriate to the required concentration.

Internship – last semester of teacher education program

Must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program to enroll in EDU 460 and EDU 490.

One Chemistry elective at 200 level or higher: 3 credits

Choose two of the following (toward the major): 6 credits

  BIO, CHE, GEO, MAT and PHY Electives at 200 level or higher

Or

  Two BIO, PHY, or GEO courses at 200 level or higher from “Other science courses required for Licensure”.

Other science and mathematics courses required for licensure (6 hours at 200 level or higher count toward major): 17 credits

Must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program to enroll in SCI 764.

Up to six hours count toward Chemistry major for courses BIO 254, BIO 326/346, BIO 225, PHY 202, GEO 200/240.
