Chemistry Program of Study


The chemistry program equips students with an understanding of scientific discovery and process, while improving their ability to reason and to critically analyze evidence and support information. Students may complement their knowledge of chemistry with the study of one or more of the department’s disciplines, which include astronomy, physics and geoscience.

Bachelor of Arts with a major in Chemistry
Students earning a Bachelor of Arts with a major in chemistry are required to complete 46 credit hours, which include 33 hours of core curriculum courses and 13 hours of approved electives. This is one of the degrees Meredith offers that counts toward the Engineering Dual Degree.

Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemistry
Students earning a Bachelor of Science with a major in chemistry are required to complete 63-65 credit hours, which include 33 hours of core curriculum courses and 30-32 hours of chemistry, mathematics and approved elective courses.

Minor in Chemistry
Students minoring in chemistry are required to complete 19 credit hours, which include eight hours of general chemistry courses and labs and 11 hours of approved electives.

Minor in Chemical Physics
Students minoring in chemical physics are required to complete 19 credit hours of prescribed chemistry and physics courses.

Minor in Geoscience
Students minoring in geoscience are required to complete 18 credit hours, which include 10 hours of prescribed geoscience courses and eight hours of approved electives.
