Hunter Clark – AP United States Government and Politics Consultant

Hunter Clark began teaching in 1995.  Helping students think critically about our political system and developing a sense of civic engagement remain his primary goals as an educator.  Hunter currently teaches AP Government and AP Psychology at Clover Hill High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia. At the AP U.S. Government reading, he has served as a reader from 2001-2004 and a table leader since 2005.  He participated in the AP Government redesigned exam pilot reading in 2017 and 2018 and served as an early table leader (to aid question leaders in the sample selection) at the 2019 reading. Hunter has conducted AP summer institutes for U.S. Government and Politics at locations such as Northwestern University, the College of William and Mary and Fairfax County Public Schools. He achieved National Board Certification in 2013.  He has participated in numerous summer teacher institutes such as programs conducted by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Virginia Historical Society, and a colloquium on James Madison and the Constitution at Montpelier. Hunter has served as his school’s debate coach since 2000. Debaters he has coached have won a state championship, advanced to NCFL Nationals and qualified for the national Tournament of Champions.  Hunter lives with his wife Jackie, a fellow high school social studies teacher, and their two teenage children in Midlothian, VA.

Jason DeLucco – AP Psychology Consultant

Jason DeLucco teaches AP Psychology at St. Mary’s Ryken High School in Leonardtown, MD.  He developed and implemented the AP Psychology curriculum for his school.  Mr. DeLucco is a veteran of the AP Psychology Reading serving as a reader and a table leader.  He worked on a committee called by the College Board to review and help design the Course and Exam Description (CED) for AP Psychology in 2018.  Mr. DeLucco has worked with publishers to help design and develop materials that accompany the CED.  He has presented at numerous one day conferences both on Psychology and on Education Technology, a huge passion for Mr. DeLucco.  Mr. DeLucco is a member of Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) as affiliated with the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP).  Mr. DeLucco was recognized in 2019 as one of the Outstanding Teachers of History in the state of Maryland by the National Historical Society of Maryland.  Currently, Mr DeLucco teaches AP Psychology and loves listening to Psychology related podcasts.

Terry Filippo – AP English Literature and Composition Consultant

Terry Filippo teaches AP English and AP Capstone and serves as the Chair of the English Department at The Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology, an internationally accredited STEM school in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A National Board Certified teacher who was the recipient of the 2012 South Carolina English Teacher of Excellence Award, he has been an educator for over thirty years. In addition to his secondary work in Advanced Placement English Language, Literature, and Capstone, he has taught English and education classes at Clemson University for many years. Terry has served as an AP English Language and Literature Reader for sixteen years, and as an endorsed College Board Consultant in both English subject areas for the past thirteen years. In this role, he facilitates AP English workshops and summer institutes around the country and mentors new College Board AP English consultants. In 2015 he was selected to facilitate an international AP English Language and Literature Combined workshop in Dubai, UAE. He also serves as an independent ELA educational consultant and has been invited by many school districts around South Carolina to present professional development workshops for English teachers. A former president of the South Carolina Council of Teachers of English, he continues to serve on the SCCTE Board of Directors as Advanced Placement Outreach Coordinator.

José Gregory – AP United States History Consultant

José Gregory obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1998 and then attended the University of Pennsylvania for graduate school.  He has worked as an AP U.S. History teacher for 16 years, has attended the AP Reading since 2008, and served as a Table Leader since 2017.  The College Board recognized him in 2007 for having the largest number of Hispanic/Latino students in the nation passing the AP U.S. History exam.  As a College Board endorsed consultant, Mr. Gregory has facilitated various workshops and AP Summer Institutes around the country.  He also served as a committee member for AP Insight in U.S. History and as a trainer for school districts using this electronic platform.  Mr. Gregory currently teaches at Marist School in Atlanta and previously taught at a magnet school for the performing arts, DeKalb School of the Arts, and at Miami-Palmetto Senior High School in Florida.  

Thomas Humble – AP English Language and Composition Consultant 

Thomas E. Humble teaches AP English Language and Composition at Raleigh Charter High School. He has taught courses in composition and rhetoric at the UNC-Chapel Hill, and he has been an AP Reader. Dr. Humble has been an AP consultant in English Language and Composition for 28 years. He has conducted workshops and institutes in 18 states, and he has conducted one-day workshops at the AP Annual National Conferences in San Antonio (2009) and San Francisco (2011). With Sally Humble, he is the co-author of manuals in AP English, formerly published by Duke TIP. He holds the B.A. in History from UNC-Charlotte, the M.A.T. in English Education from Duke University, and the Ph.D. in English from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Amie La Porte-Lewis – AP World History: Modern Consultant

Amie La Porte-Lewis attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA and graduated with a degree in History and French Literature. She also has an M.Ed. in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. She has taught since 2004 in both public and private schools, and currently teaches at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, GA. Over the course of her career thus far, Amie has taught World History, AP World History, Economics, AP Microeconomics, and various levels of French Language, including AP. She currently teaches AP World History and AP Microeconomics, in addition to being the Dean of the Class of 2021 and coaching cross country, cheerleading and girls lacrosse at Holy Innocents’. Amie has been a reader for AP World History since 2008, and a table leader since 2015, and currently serves as a member of the AP World History Development Committee. Amie has contributed to AP Insight World History materials and has presented professional development for AP Insight both online and in day workshops. Additionally, she has lead AP Summer Institutes and one-day workshops for AP World History as an endorsed consultant for the College Board.

Valerie Mervine – AP Human Geography Consultants

Valerie Mervine is an AP Human Geography teacher at Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She holds a BA in Political Science from Georgia Southwestern State University and a MAS in Geographic Education from Arizona State University. She has taught AP Human Geography for 20 years. 

Valerie has been an AP Human Geography College Board Consultant for 11 years and has attended the APHG Reading for 15 years, 13 as a table leader.  She received the Distinguished Teaching Award from NCGE in 2006, Distinguished Teacher of the Year at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach for 2007, 2013, 2014, and Teacher of the Year for 2015. Ms. Mervine has taught Geography courses at Arizona State, Virginia Wesleyan, and Old Dominion University. She created the APHG course for Virtual Virginia as the sole author and has been published in the Journal of Geography and the Geography Teacher magazine.

Thomas Parker – AP Statistics Consultant

Tom Parker is a retired HS math teacher from Kernersville NC. A 1981 graduate of Virginia Tech, he taught in the Guilford County Schools (NC) from 1986 to 2016. He was the SW Guilford HS Teacher of the Year for the 2015-16 school year. Tom is certified in Adult and Young Adolescent Mathematics by the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards. In 2012, he earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University.

Tom began teaching AP Statistics in 2004 and has been an AP Statistics Reader since 2009. Beginning in 2014, he has served as an AP Statistics Consultant for the College Board and for the National Math and Science Initiative.

Tom is also a member of the National Association for Sports Public Address Announcers, earning the Bob Sheppard National HS Public Address Announcer of the Year Award in 2014. He announces for various sports at SW Guilford HS and has worked as a Public Address Announcer for High Point University Men’s/Women’s Basketball and for Wake Forest University football.

Tom Soth – AP Spanish Language and Culture Consultant

Thomas Soth, a National Board Certified Teacher, has taught AP Spanish Language since 2001 in North Carolina and is currently teaching Spanish 4, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and AP Spanish Literature and Culture at Chapel Hill High School. He has taught courses at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and is a former president of the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC). He has contributed to the AP program in many ways, including presentations at state and regional conferences, as a consultant for the College Board, as an AP reader and Table Leader, and as one of the authors of The Teacher Resource Guide for Cumbre, curso AP de la lengua española.  

Tom was an ACTFL Teacher of the Year finalist after being named the 2012 Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) Teacher of the Year. He has helped to review materials for the AP Spanish Language and Culture Community and for AP Classroom.
