Public health is a diverse and rapidly growing field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, public health-related employment opportunities are expected to grow in the coming decade in response to global concerns such as emerging diseases, bio-terrorism, infectious disease surveillance and water resource issues.

Meredith's program provides a core curriculum spanning multiple disciplines to prepare students as public health generalists. Specific tracks will allow students to specialize in particular areas of public health:

Biological Sciences
Public Health Focus: Epidemiology, Environmental Health

  • Potential jobs for graduates with a Biology focus: public health laboratory technician, communicable disease investigator
  • Potential jobs for individuals that seek a graduate degree in epidemiology, environmental health, or a professional degree: epidemiologist, environmental health specialist, toxicologist, disease investigator, public health physician, public health nurse, public health veterinarian, public health laboratory scientist

Social and Behavioral Sciences
Public Health Focus: Health Behavior and Education, Health Policy and Administration

  • Potential jobs for graduates with a Social and Behavioral Science focus:  public health social worker, public health educator, community outreach worker
  • Potential jobs for individuals that a graduate public health degree in health behavior or health policy: public health program coordinators, public health emergency response

Policy and Ethics
Public Health Focus: Health Policy

  • Potential jobs for graduates with an Ethics and Policy focus: public health program specialists, community outreach worker
  • Potential jobs for individuals that pursue a graduate public health degree in health policy:  public health program coordinators, public health emergency response coordinators, public health policy analysts, public health information specialists/analysts, health services manager
