Community Day of Dance
Saturday, Jan. 18
Weatherspoon Gym

Community Day of Dance is a fundraiser for Meredith College's Nu Delta Alpha chapter. Advanced Meredith students and Meredith faculty will offer classes in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, world, modern, and tap for beginning through advanced dancers ages 6 and up. Options are also available for very beginning students ages 2-5 and 6-10. Costs: 45 minute classes $15 each; 75 minutes classes $20 each; Full day pass $55. Purchase of a class includes one free ticket to Meredith’s DanceWorks concert.

Encore! Invitational

The college community is invited to attend the first annual Encore! Invitational. Four high school a cappella choirs are participating in a full day of workshops on a cappella singing technique. The day will culminate in a concert which features those groups as well as our own Meredith College Encore! and NCSU's The Grains of Time. The event is free to Meredith faculty, students and staff. Film Screening: Girl Rising
Wednesday, January 22, 6:30 p.m.
Jones Auditorium

Meredith College will host a second showing of Girl Rising on Wednesday, January 22. All participants will be invited to join small group discussions after the film in Lux Hall. Meredith faculty and staff will facilitate these small groups, along with international and globally-engaged Meredith students. Please encourage students to attend. The screening counts as an Academic/Cultural Event in General Education. 

Meredith College Documentary Film Festival
Sunday, January 26, Films shown at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.
Carswell Auditorium

The inaugural Meredith College Documentary Film Festival will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014, in Carswell Auditorium. Watch inspiring films and hear from the filmmakers who created them. Filmmaker discussions will be led by Meredith alumna Camden Watts, ’03, an independent producer, director, and writer. The festival is free and open to the public. The Meredith College Documentary Film Festival qualifies as an Academic / Cultural Event in General Education for Meredith students. Space in Carswell Auditorium is limited; seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

MBA Preview for Prospective Students
Wednesday, January 29 from 5:30-8 p.m.

The Meredith MBA Program will hold an MBA Preview, which includes an information session, class visit and dinner with MBA graduates who will answer questions about their experiences in the program. Chef Vivian Howard

Chef Vivian Howard, owner of Chef & the Farmer Restaurant in Kinston, N.C., is featured in PBS documentary A Chef’s Life. Born in Deep Run, N.C., to farming parents, Howard learned early on to appreciate the ebb and flow of eating with the seasons. Still, it took 23 years and a start in the advertising business to convince her that a career in food was feasible. She went on to learn from creative, cutting edge chefs, Wylie Dufresne and Sam Mason at WD-50 and later, was a member of the opening team at Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Spice Market.

Meredith College Opera Theater Presents Albert Herring

As part of Benjamin Brittenʼs centennial celebration here at Meredith College, the Meredith College Opera Theater will be presenting two performances of his comic chamber opera, Albert Herring, featuring Metropolitan Opera Soprano Claudia Waite as Lady Billows. Funded in part by the Jean Davis Newell Music Enhancement Fund. Performances are free and open to the public.

Woman of Achievement Lecture

Personal finance expert Alexa von Tobel, the founder and CEO of LearnVest, will present the 2014 Woman of Achievement Lecture, in commemoration of Meredith’s Founders’ Day. This lecture, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, is part of the Meredith College Presidential Lecture Series. The lecture is free and open to the public.
