Students Build Career Readiness Competencies at Meredith

Your student has been developing their career readiness skills during the fall semester.  In addition to a college degree, skills, knowledge, and experience from academic disciplines, employers also seek specific competencies from candidates who are interested in joining their organizations. Based on research from employing companies, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has identified eight Career Readiness Competencies that employers expect students to possess when entering the workforce.  These include career and self development, communication, critical thinking, equity and inclusion, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology.

This year, the Office of Career Planning is focusing on communication, “clearly and effectively exchanging information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization.” At Meredith, students have been learning about and demonstrating A+ communication skills, which the team in the Office of Career Planning identified through conversations with employer, faculty, and staff partners.

Encourage your student to seek support from Career Planning early and often!  Students can view and RSVP to participate in events that focus on career and professional development, sign up for career counseling sessions, and apply for internships and jobs through their Handshake account.

If you are in the workforce and your organization is looking for interns or full-time employees, or you are interested in developing an internship, please reach out. We invite you to post your open positions via Handshake, our centralized recruiting platform. The site is open to all of our current students and alumnae/i, and provides equitable access to full-time roles and paid internship opportunities.
