StrongPoints is Preparing Students for Lifelong Success

The StrongPoints initiative launched at Meredith in fall 2013. This strengths-based advising and planning program helps students identify their strengths and make decisions for academic, experiential, financial, and career success. Now in its fourth year, StrongPoints is celebrating its first “class”, the class of 2018, which has experienced StrongPoints throughout their four years at Meredith. StrongPoints kicked off the year with a celebration of the class of 2018. The Senior Send-Off was designed to help students begin their senior year with a focus on their strengths and a plan for reaching their goals.

Beyond the senior class, StrongPoints has partnered with campus departments to provide opportunities for all students. In collaboration with the Office of Career Planning, StrongPoints offered individual strengths coaching sessions to students participating in Angels Suited for Success, a career development series of programming. Students participating in leadership programming through Student Leadership and Service learned about ways to use their strengths as they emerge into leaders on campus.

In addition to these partnerships, StrongPoints is busy planning programs this spring, including a series of workshops for upper-class student leaders titled Strengths-Based Leadership. Workshops in this series will focus on using strengths in leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork & delegation. StrongPoints Ambassadors are also hosting two sessions in the spring. The first, Navigating Plan B, will guide students through ways to reconsider their values, interests and strengths to create a new path for a major or career when their first plan does not work out. The second, Go Big Not Broke, will help students explore ways to finance their summer experiences such as Study Abroad, internships away from home, and summer school.

Aside from the unique programming offered by StrongPoints, students engage with the four components of StrongPoints through their coursework, co-curricular and leadership experiences, and academic advising and career counseling conversations. StrongPoints continues working to partner with all departments across campus to incorporate StrongPoints programming throughout the entire campus community.
