Reminders for Proper Face Covering Use

Regardless of vaccination status, wearing a face covering is required when in indoor common or public areas on the Meredith campus. Face coverings are also required under the City of Raleigh’s emergency public health proclamation.

Best practices for wearing face coverings include:

  • Face coverings supplement other evidence-based measures such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing practices, and vaccinations.
  • Wear a face covering correctly and consistently for the best protection.
  • A properly fitting mask covers your nose and mouth, fits snugly against the sides of your face, and is secured under your chin.
  • Remember to wash your hands prior to handling face coverings and avoid touching the front of the mask/face covering when securing it on your face.
  • If you have to often touch/adjust your mask, it doesn’t fit you properly, and you may need to find a different mask or make adjustments.
  • Wash your hands after removing the face mask.
  • Cloth masks or face coverings should be washed daily.

KN95 masks may be preferable in some situations or for some people – especially for situations that require prolonged close contact with people who do not live in the same household, or for people who are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

What to look for:
Look for KN95 masks that meet requirements similar to those set by CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for respirators. Some KN95 masks sold in the United States meet requirements similar to those set by NIOSH, while other KN95 masks do not.
