Residence Life Updates Spring 2019

Meredith’s Office of Residence Life shares housing sign up information that parents and students need to know to prepare for the 2019-20 academic year, as well as the end of the current Spring 2019 semester.

Housing Sign-up Information
Complete housing sign-up information is online on the Residence Life MyMeredith page. Residents are encouraged to read through the information carefully to understand the process and deadlines. Residency Requirement reminder:  Students in their first and second years at Meredith College are required to live on campus for the 2019-20 academic year regardless of the number of hours completed.

To sign up for a space on campus in an apartment or residence hall, each student signing up MUST have either her $200 security deposit for the Oaks or $150 advance room fee for the residence halls. The security deposit and advance room fee are non-returnable and non-refundable. Preferred method of payment is by check (cannot be a starter check). *The $150 advance room fee will be waived for students who have need-based financial assistance. Residents who do not need to bring the advance room fee will be notified by email prior to Spring Break. The apartment security deposit cannot be waived.

End of the Semester Closing
It may seem like the semester just started but it is never too early to think about the end of the semester! It is important that all residents make their move out plans before the last minute. Below is some helpful information for parents to know. Residents will be receiving move-out and end of the semester information in early April.

For residents in Vann, Stringfield, Faircloth and Brewer, if they have lofted, bunked or otherwise repositioned their bedsprings on the end and footboards, they need to re-set their beds to the sixth rung from the bottom. This is required to be done by Reading Day so that when the resident is ready to check out after finals, she does not have to worry about re-setting her bed to the proper height. Each resident who has lofted her bed is responsible for taking it down and putting the loft pieces in the storage closet.

Other tips for move out include beginning to recycle items such as old notebooks and sorting items that can be donated. Taking home clothing that is not needed and winter items is helpful, too.

Move-out schedule
The last scheduled final is on Tuesday, May 7. All residents are encouraged to move-out of their residence hall room within 24-hours of their last exam. This allows residents who have finals later in the week to study and not be distracted by residents who are finished with finals.

  • Freshman deadline for moving out is Wednesday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
  • Upperclass residents who are not participating in graduation (Chorale, Orchestra, etc.) should be moved out by Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m.
  • Seniors in the residence halls and residents participating in graduation should be moved out by Sunday, May 12 at 12 p.m. All residence halls close at noon on Sunday, May 12.
  • Seniors in the Oaks will have specific move-out information provided in the next few weeks. The last day to move out of the Oaks as a graduating senior is May 17.

Oaks Summer Billing Reminder
The Oaks Rental Agreement is for 12 months, so residents of the Oaks who are not graduating are responsible for their summer rent. There are three billing cycles for the Oaks:  Fall, Spring and Summer. The summer rent bills will be sent to residents in April and the full summer rent amount is due by June 1.

Questions?  Residents can talk to their Resident Assistant or Residence Director. Residence Life can be contacted via email reslife@meredith.edu. For Oaks questions, contact Caitlyn Riner, Apartment Manager, at ceriner@meredith.edu
