Phi Kappa Phi 2025 Induction Ceremony Held

The Meredith chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest interdisciplinary honor society, inducted 53 Meredith students on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Jones Chapel.  Students are honored for their class rank and scholarly achievement.  Also inducted were President Aimee Sapp, nine alumni, and four Meredith faculty members. 

Dr. Mitchell Brown, Curtis O. Liles III Professor of Political Science at Auburn University, delivered a keynote speech.  Through a series of personal and family stories, Brown revealed the complexity – and the satisfaction – that accompany the pursuit of learning that “makes the world a better place.” Member Sadie Gaines and inductee Joceline Bermudez recall being moved by Brown and her husband’s effort to aid victims of Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.  In Gaines’ words, the Brown valued the opportunity to help others, and in doing so, the couple “decided that learning new things has intrinsic value.”

This is the second class of inductees into Meredith’s chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.  Members plan and carry out an annual student-led service project and may compete nationally for a range of grants and awards.  The Phi Kappa Phi motto is “Let the love of learning rule humanity.”
