Peer Tutoring Support Through Meredith Learning Center

The Meredith College Learning Center is excited to have another semester well underway! We hope that your students are enjoying their classes and taking advantage of the support systems Meredith offers them. 

It’s been almost a year since Doug Kovel published this article in Inside Higher Ed about the benefits of peer tutoring, and it’s just as relevant today as it was then. Whether or not your students are struggling in any of their classes, they can likely benefit from making an appointment with a peer tutor. It’s a great idea to get someone else’s eyes on their writing no matter how often they write, and explaining the content they’ve just learned to someone else really cements it in their own mind. 

Many of us hated the “What did you learn in school today?” question at the dinner table, but it really did help! Many of us can’t share a dinner table with our college students each night, and I doubt that this question will gain a lot of traction with their friends in Belk Dining Hall. But the Learning Center can fill that gap for your students. Peer tutors always ask great questions.

Students have two kinds of opportunities to interact with our peer tutors. They can make individual appointments or drop in to a group tutoring session set up by their embedded tutor. We’re also considering accountability groups for students who would like a way to track their study hours in the Learning Center. 

When classes are in session face-to-face, the Learning Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Please encourage your Meredith Angels to come visit us!
