Parent Fundraising Success Leads to Fitness Center Improvements

Thanks to the generous support of our parents during the 2015-2016 fiscal year, plans are underway to improve the Meredith College Fitness Center.  The Parents Fund raised $56,148, which will be used to extend Fitness Center operating hours, provide additional fitness-related programs to our students, and update equipment. Meredith parents gave more this year than in any other year in the history of The Parents Fund.

Effective September 12, students who attend the Fitness Center between 7–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday will have the option to work with student exercise specialists, who will personalize training for any student by request. Weekend hours in the Fitness Center have been expanded to include two additional hours on Saturdays and two hours Sunday evening. Plans are in place to open the Center even earlier Monday through Thursday. We hope your student takes advantage of these new fitness programs being offered on campus.

“We were glad to help students like our daughter who aren’t participating in team sports, have a better place on campus where they can exercise and enjoy physical activity,” said parent Margaret Marshall. “The upgrades are certainly going to make the Fitness Center more appealing to more students.”

Each year, gifts from parents are designated to The Parents Fund, a special component of the annual fund, which helps to improve a campus project. Past parent projects have included campus lighting, a fountain restoration, renovations to the student center and lower Belk Dining Hall.

“The Parents Fund does a good job of identifying needs on campus that students have said warrant improvement and quickly implementing a solution,” said Marshall.

Stay tuned for more exciting information and to learn about this year’s Parents Fund project. Thank you for supporting The Parents Fund at Meredith College!
