News & Observer Publishes Meredith Poll Director’s Op-Ed on Third Parties

Meredith Poll Director David McLennan wrote an opinion piece for the Raleigh News & Observer discussing why third parties aren’t likely to gain ground in NC during midterms, despite high voter dissatisfaction with the state of local and national politics.

The piece, published online on July 20, 2018, cites the Spring 2018 Meredith Poll report, which found so found that a majority (56%) of NC voters believe a viable third party is critical to improving politics.

“Unfortunately, despite citizen dissatisfaction with the two major parties, we are less likely now than at any other time in our nation’s history to see third-party candidates elected,” McLennan wrote.
